Battlefield Models - Who we are
Ok to say I lack a technical understanding of computers would be an understatement but I am a quick learner and will gradually get a hang of this. :-)
Well as my first blog I thought it would be nice to introduce myself in a relaxed way where my fingers can run free and hopefully not get me into trouble. The name is Paul Mews and I have started up Battlefield Models. I often used to wonder if people who set up online shops were real people but in my case, who would come up with such an unusual last name that can be so easily hunted down on Facebook if I was not real. I will be setting up a Battlefield Models FB page soon and then my mug shot will also be there for all to see. I have been into miniature modelling since a small child and have painted a wide spectrum of models and figures over the decades.
Anyhow back to the new online shop. The shop is aimed at meeting the gaming needs of historical war-gamers everywhere. The stock I am starting with will only grow over time with the models figures and tools that gamers need. So why did I start with the models I did. Well strangely I nearly did not go that way. I originally looked at Games Workshop figures (yes I still can be known to get a paint brush out and enjoy testing my painting skills on such model figures) However, in the back of my mind I could not help but feel the same frustration of many Games Workshop customers over the price hikes in their models. I mean charging almost £10 for a 'fine cast' single figure e.g. Grey Knight Brotherhood Champion is a bit much in my opinion. So I felt drawn into my first passions of modelling with historical figures. Maybe it is the reading of historical books or shows on Yesterday but these figures bring alive the knowledge we read and watch. Over 30 years ago the painting of my first original troops to the ones we can buy today has in my opinion been amazing.
Victrix Figures
Hence one of the first sets of models I had to buy for the shop was the 28mm Victrix plastic range. These models are not only finely sculpted but offer so many options to the owner for creating different posers that a whole unit can look individual if they so wish. Also, the Victrix Napoleonic figures come with a choice of truly amazing historically accurate printed flags that offer a realism to your unit whether on the gaming table or on display.Take this link to Napoleon's Old Guard and the accompanying photos will reinforce this view

What really is hitting home from Victrix at the moment are the expanding Ancient Greek 28mm range. I am expecting any day for the new Theban Armoured Hoplites to arrive in stock. But like all Greek models they come with some special shield transfers that can also be purchased. Painters can always have a go at painting themselves but why try when you can get such amazing transfers like these
All the Greek figures and shield sets can be found at
www.battlefieldmodels.com so they are well worth the look. After all viewing is free ;-)
Perry Miniatures
I stock a limited number of Perry Miniatures at the present moment, mainly in their fantastic 28mm plastic Napoleonic cavalry range. I almost feel that I do not need to talk them up as I think everyone has heard about the quality figures the Perry's manufacture.
Man at War
I had originally aimed to start the selling of the plastic range of models but when I came across the Napoleon at War range by Man at War then I threw this decision aside. These 18mm Napoleonic metal model figures offer not only war-gamers the chance to fight with an excellent range of figures at a divisional level but will allow those who love painting their chance to achieve an eye pleasing result. These can be purchased with the official rulebook also sold at the online shop or used with other rules.
We are also awaiting the release of Man at War 'Napoleon at Wars' British Heavy Cavalry and Scots Greys. It has to be said they look top notch on the design table.
The last thing I had to introduce to my shop were the paints and tools. I thought rather than just sell the models as some do, why not give the shopper the opportunity to buy all the items they would require. Hence I acquired a paint set that are useful for all the different model figures. As if anyone had to ask but yes they had to be Vallejo paints. These paints are arguably the best acrylic paints around for modellers with brilliant end results (and yes they are far cheaper than citadel paints from Games Workshop).
Anyhow, as I have said above, it is free at least to have a look at my site
www.battlefieldmodels.com and don't forget the multi 10% off discount offer.
Enjoy,
Paul
